tonight was the magnuson awards for leadership and service on campus. i went to the reception because my best friend mike got an individual award. he totally deserved it, and it was basically a long time coming.

mike is one of those people who
1) tells it like it is and doesn't take any crap from anyone
2) gets stuff done on time, if not early, no matter what
3) inspires others to better themselves
4) gives great advice
5) puts others before him
6) leads by example
7) steps up when others slack off
8) treats his friends like family

he is the most trustworthy, honest, friendly person on the planet. i am so, so lucky to call him a friend. he has been through more than someone should have to go through in their lifetime. he throws himself into any project or organization that he's a part of, and the results are simply astounding. the award couldn't have gone to a better person (in company with the rest of the recipients, of course).

- i just got distracted for about an hour and a half - i'm at the boys' apartment -

anyways, we attempted to watch superbad and ended up drinking, listening to bill play the recorder, grading mike's students' pen pal letters, and ranting about how terrible the econ/management department will remain if gustavus doesn't hire kathi tunheim full-time.

it' s now time to go home.

oh, and bonus - Y was at the awards thing tonight, too ;) it was pretty stellar. he sat at my table.
