well, the weather's finally back on track to actually being warm and sunny. i can actually sit outside for an extended period of time without needing long sleeves or an umbrella. i've been wearing a swimsuit top i hate because i have to don a strapless dress in about two weeks for jimmy p's dinner event, and all my other swimsuits are halters. bad tan lines are not exactly kosher.
babysitting is so much better now than it used to be. the parents pay more, the kids are older and not as obnoxious, and they play outside all day long - meaning i can basically do whatever. luckily, i've got nelson and sophie, the two kids that live right behind me, three days a week, so i can even hang out at home if i want. the best is when they decide all they want to do the entire day is swim, meaning we hang out in my backyard. i tell ya...two summers ago, i watched them every day for nine hours, and this is everything they did:
-summer soccer
-off-season hockey training
-library club
-safety camp
-day camp
-swimming lessons
-adventure club (i still don't know what this actually is..)
-big buddies
-bi-weekly play dates with two other families
their schedule was absolutely ridiculous. kids need to just hang out and be kids, ride bikes with their friends, eat ice cream and run through the sprinklers. thank god the two of them are in a combined total of only three activities this summer. they both still do soccer, and then nelson does adventure club and sophie does swimming lessons. she told me today she wants to be a lifeguard when she grows up so she can save people. gotta love almost third graders :)
oh, and for the record, Y is basically out of the picture. no big reason - i mean, unless i want to spend every weekend at canterbury this summer (where he works), i'm not gonna see him. plus, he's going off to grad school at arizona in the fall, and i'll be in sconnie-ville. and again for the record, his name is andrew. i feel like since i'm over this and likely won't be mentioning him again, i can say his name. plus, he doesn't know i blog, so who cares?
matt told me today that andrew would be a little boring for me if we ever really got together. i didn't really know how to take that. i was sort of offended for about five seconds, and then when i told poppy, she agreed with him. i thought about it for awhile, and now i'm like, am i attracted to boring guys? my last boyfriend (adam) wasn't as loud or outgoing as i am - more on the shy side - but i would never, ever classify him as boring. ugh, why do i try to read into such little things?
well, i have to drive claire to the airport at 6:15 am. she's off to ski camp in oregon for three weeks. they still have five feet of snow on the ground, from this winter. she'll be in heaven. so this means i have to go to bed.
but first, ta-da! my Weekly Up To.
Listening: "Life in a Northern Town" - Dream Academy. It's the original version of the new Sugarland/Little Big Town/Jake Owen tune.
Reading: Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. Mom bought it for Claire last week to take to camp - but I started reading it. If you've seen the movie "How to Deal" with Mandy Moore, this is the book it's based on. It's good - and different than the movie in a lot of ways.
Thinking: I really want to go to WEfest again this year, but I need people to go with.
Feeling: Hungry.
How to Annoy Me: Tell me to do something instead of asking me.
How to Charm Me: Be yourself. Don't put anything out there that isn't 100% you.

riding bikes, eating ice cream... oh to be a kid again. I remember when the summers were long, and all was well. I wish I was a kid again, enjoying the summer.
I love babysitting when the kids don't REALLY need to be babysat. It's so nice!
Gosh I wish I had that kind of summer to look forward too. Good call on the swimsuit top to cut out the tan lines. Smart thinking.
Hey, I am new to this blog. I was a nanny for 10 months and thought it was the absolute worst thing ever, either the kids were crazy and out of control and the parents were cool, or the kids were great and the parents sucked. Babysitting is awesome, but being a nanny sucks, just thought i'd state that lol.
kenyata - i'm sorry you had a bad experience; i've definitely had friends who have gone through the same thing! i guess i got lucky - nannied for these two kids a few summers ago, and it was a blast. thanks for stopping by my blog :)
