you weather a few storms, pull out a few thorns, and together the garden grows

here i am in the folke bernadotte memorial library. oh, the old stomping grounds of sophomore and junior year, how i've missed you so. NOT.

today is the day before our 10-12 page paper is due for martin's class. i've been here for an hour and a half and have already seen 7 others from our 16-person class roster. obviously, half of us haven't gotten very far. i'm sure the rest of the class will make an appearance after dinner.

10-12 pages doesn't seem so bad when you consider the fact that i've written two 20-pagers and a 25-er in my time here at gustavus; however, 10-12 for martin may as well be 40. he's just so gosh darn picky about things, and since he knows everything there is to know about gender and social constructs, we all know that if something in our paper has even the slightest, tiniest chance of being "misread" (GASP!), we throw it out. i've learned that doing so helps me out in the long run.

i'm currently on page 8, only because my lit review gave me enough stuff to cover that much. i plan to expand on some things, and hopefully those will make some inroads to more ideas.

classmates in the library updated total: 10 including me. that's two more since i started the post. 10 bucks says by the time 8:00 rolls around, the entire group will be here, congregating on the couches and whining about how they wish they had started earlier. the countdown begins.

BONUS:
Y arrived here a few minutes ago. he said he has some sort of big group psych project... i sort of tuned out because i was distracted by his new haircut. and because he chose to not wear his usual hat today, i can actually see it. i told him i liked it. he has very nice hair.

AND....when i did end up tuning back into the conversation...drum roll please.... Y is now SINGLE! i asked how his weekend was, and his response was "well, it was a good long time coming." apparently the relationship was the tail end of a summer "fling" (even though that's not the right word for it...it's like a camp counselor relationship - doesn't last past august 30) and when Y went to visit her (in oklahoma....??) over spring break they discussed possibly breaking it off, and it finally happened this weekend.

oh lordy i am in heaven. w.o.w.z.a.

except for the paper and this cold i've got going on, it's been a pretty exceptional day so far :)
