why are some people negative all the time? i understand when it's necessary, but to be that way 24/7 must be draining. plus, it brings everyone else down. we're seniors, it's our last semester and it's almost over, and we should be living it up every minute - not complaining about everything.
i have a friend/roommate who is like this, and i can't stand it. she complains if the absolute tiniest possible thing goes wrong - just flat out turns completely pessimistic. or all of a sudden she'll get this attitude and take things out on other people. someone makes a comment, and she just rips into them or their comment and does a few eye rolls. or if we all get really excited about something or have a good idea, she'll counter with something she considers "realistic" and basically tell us we're shit. so unnecessary.
like this weekend - supposed to be a great time and lots of fun. one of my other friends whose been away interning all semester came to visit and stayed with us. for some reason, whenever she's around, my negative friend latches onto her and basically (i think unconsciously) makes it a point that the two of them are better than everyone else. it's really obnoxious.
luckily, i'm not the only one who notices it. one of my other roommates and i have discussed this on many occasions. sometimes she has the guts to call out said friend on this occurrence, which sometimes i wish i could do, but then i see her get shot down and everyone feeling awkward and i'm glad i can't. then we usually vent about this at the bar or in the car. grrr.
we also vent about the fact that said friend seems to have a major issue with this other roommate of mine's drinking. no one else's, just hers. every single time we go out, said friend makes a comment to me - either about how she is annoyed with the volume level of our roommate or how i should be prepared to help take care of her later. she has to find some way to judge her every weekend - and it's just ridiculous.
the thing is, the girl doesn't have a drinking problem. she even drinks less than some of us sometimes. what i just don't understand is WHY said friend has such an issue with her and no one else. i could be dancing on the bar and bringing ten guys home and she would basically just tell me i'm stupid the next day. but if this other roommate has more than three beers in the course of one night (usually about 5 hours), said friend gets all pissed off and tells me over and over again how she's making such bad lifestyle choices. then she'll tell the girl to quiet down or stop swearing (which she doesn't do any more than anyone else) and then roll her eyes at me in a "see what we have to deal with?" fashion. so freaking annoying... HONESTLY.
in this regard, i'm glad i only have two weeks left to live with miss pessimist. we're supposed to live it up and have a ton of fun at the end of this year especially, and i don't want to be brought down by someone who apparently doesn't know how to have fun and be positive.
and in other news - my chances with Y might be diminishing... hopefully that can be turned around soon! updates later.
